I mentioned earlier that I was thinking about bringing this character back. XD Here she is, all fixed up and better developed. :3
Her BaltoSource page can be seen here [link] , but the bio is the exact same one posted on this page.
Species: Dog; 3/4 Husky, 1/4 Wolf
Parents: Balto and Jenna
Personality: General type ISTJ. [link] Being an introvert by nature, Kanti is rather quiet and reserved when it comes to interactions with others. However, she's also very practical and can be quite clever. She likes to deal more with facts than with feelings, and alas, this can lead her to seeming rather stand-offish or blunt to strangers. Though she is usually quiet and internally-based, she doesn't put up with any kind of "crap" that goes against her belief systems, and she lets others know it, for example, she doesn't like howling as she thinks it's too loud and obnoxious, thus her vibrant display of covering her ears while in the box with Aleu. She sometimes appears to be overly critical.
Kanti is extremely loyal to her owner, Aliison, and to her two closest friends, Kahlei and Coal (see her history.) To her, an insult to them is an insult to herself and she doesn't take it lightly. Being rather small, she can't put up much of a physical fight, but when she gets angry enough, you won't want to hear the types of things she'll say. This can be especially jarring to those around her as she doesn't often reach that point to a very strong degree.
Though a three-dog group is hardly a true sled team, Kanti enjoys being among such a small group. She needs to have some time to herself and never likes to venture into crowds.
Kanti's mind is very organized and well-run. She likes to know what to do and when. When she gives her word, she sticks to it, as failing to do so is an ultimate wrong in her mind. She is always punctual when she needs to be and can't stand for any disorder, such as the "sled team" being out of the normal pattern.
Kanti is very devoted to the task at hand, whatever it may happen to be at a given time. She thinks of it in almost a brisk, businesslike way as she strives to complete her task. She refuses distractions and can sometimes withdraw and overwork herself.
However, when the schedules get overloaded and things start to get hectic, Kanti seems to break down. She begins to blame herself for any and all the wrong scenarios and feels isolated and desolated. She becomes lost within her own mind as she struggles for order and withdraws from others. It often takes Kahlei's constant smile and Coal's ever-silent support to pull her out of her wallowing until her idea of order resumes, which can be a very long time, depending on her situation.
History: Kanti was born to Balto and Jenna as a part of the same litter of Aleu and Kodi. She was adopted by a young girl named Elizabeth Brownfield, who was absolutely ecstatic to have a new puppy. Kanti was a little nervous when Elizabeth brought her home, but she adapted quickly and efficiently, still having effective levels of puppy-like enthusiasm in her system.
However, Kanti wasn't the only pet in the Brownfield's house. They had an older dog, and aging female husky named Queen, and Queen didn't appreciate Kanti's prescence at all. The older dog had lived a long time as the only pet and she was very comfortable that way, and at her not-so-young age, she was very uncomfortable with having a new young pup in the house. She was often very snappy and irritable with Kanti, and the pup, with her ferociously organized mind, very quickly classified Queen as a dog that she didn't want to be around. Tension grew between the two and Kanti almost grew to fear Queen, as the older husky was much, much larger and stronger than she.
The Brownfields, of course, noticed the tension between their dogs. At first, they thought it was simply that they hadn't yet adapted to each other, but when the quarreling went on for several months, they realized that they were going to have to do something about it. If the dogs couldn't get along, one of them was going to have to go. Alas, because Queen was so old and at this point, very unadaptable, not to mention she'd been a part of the Brownfield's family for so long, the one who had to go was going to be Kanti.
Kanti was a little over half-grown at this point, fast approaching being a yearling, but she was still young, and the change confused her when Elizabeth's mother gave her to an old man.
The old man had once been a veterinarian in another state, but had since retired and decided to move to Nome. He, too, already had a dog, but his two-year-old mutt, Coal, so named for his dismal gray coat, was much younger and more adaptable than old Queen, and he knew that he'd be able to take care of Kanti well, and he accepted the growing wolfdog.
No longer filled with as much puppy-like enthusiasm as she had been when she had moved to the Brownfield's and the change in her normal life structure really threw her off mentally. She was unfamiliar with Coal, with the new house, with the old man who called himself Charles. She was unfamilar with the strange girl who lived with Charles, a teenage girl with messy brunette hair and deep, deep eyes.
The girl, Allison, was 14 years old at the time Kanti came into her home. She was an orphan, kindly taken in by Charles. She loved dogs dearly was very close to Coal, who himself had been a "rescued" pup that she had insisted on keeping. She showed kindess to Kanti, and Kanti began to trust her deeply. And once the spark of trust with Allison was formed, her mind seemed to regain its structure and she began to bond, too, with Coal and Charles.
Two years passed and Kanti grew healthily. Her internal self was back on track and she again adapted efficiently to her new life, setting herself a new and working schedule. Charles bought a small dogsled for Allison, who, overjoyed at the idea, poured her heart and soul into giving Kanti and Coal rudimentary training. She took her miniature-team out often, and one day, they stumbled across a little surprise: a tiny, emaciated pup, perhaps just a few months old, curled up feebly in the snow. Allison gasped, dashing over to the weakened bundle of ragged russet fur. At first, she feared that the pup was dead, but after a moment, it let out a pitiful squeak. Allison became all business. She gently put the pup on the back of the sled, and with the help of Kanti and Coal, she returned home as fast as they could.
As it turns out, the puppy's condition was critical. She was severely underweight and had fallen gravely ill. The odds were entirely against her. Had Allison gone out just an hour later, Charles had figured, the pup probably wouldn't have made it. How it had even gotten out into such a condition was beyond him.
Luckily, though, the man had once been a vet, and he knew the best thing to do. Over the course of the next year and a half, the little puppy, who they named Kahlei, grew and recovered. Kanti became very protective of Kahlei and was always close to the younger dog.
Kahlei, despite her rough beginnings, turned out to be a very joyful and beneficial addition to the family. She was often the one to cheer up serious Kanti, and since her breed, which Charles recognized as an Icelanding Sheepdog, was a strong one, she made a good addition to the small pseudo-sled team, as well.
Over the years, Kanti continued to bond with the entire little family. She felt fondness for all of them, not to mention an extreme loyalty to Allison in particular and a protective drive towards Kahlei.
To her own surprise, though, she found herself growing closer and closer to Coal. Kanti preferred facts over feelings and was not comfortable with the odd ways she felt towards the gray dog. For a while, she stuck it into the back of her mind, preferring to concentrate on what she deemed to be more important matters. But the feeling grew stronger, and it began to overwhelm her. Not wanting to face Coal, she consulted her dear Kahlei about the feeling.
Kahlei just laughed when the wolfdog that she thought of as her older sister asked such a question. She answered quite simply that Kanti was falling in love with Coal and that she had noticed it weeks ago.
Whatever answer Kanti had been expecting, it wasn't that. She was very uncomfortable at the idea of a romantic love and suddenly felt very, very awkward. For a while, she kept herself in absolute denial, not wanting to deal with those kinds of feelings. But, eventually, over the course of the next several months, she began to let the idea sink into a slot in her organized mind, and she began to calm. She began to let herself love Coal and even to let herself discuss it with him. They eventually declared themselves mates, much to Kahlei's delight.
Coal and Kanti did have a single litter later in life, when Kanti was about 5. Kanti was at first very surprised to find out and felt very awkward and uncomfortable about becoming a mother. She'd never been much of a real "puppy-person" herself; the only pup she had ever felt any form of compassion for was Kahlei. Coal, however, who at the time was 7 and growing older for a dog, was delighted and was the strongest help to Kanti. The wolfdog did find that she loved her litter when they were born, though, and developed the same kind of protective relationship that she'd had with Kahlei.
Their litter consisted of 5 healthy pups, 4 of which were successfully sold when they were old enough. They did keep one, though, a small, brown male who they named Casey.
Coal later died at the age of 10, which was a very difficult time for Kanti. Without the dog who'd been her mate for so many years now, her entire life was thrown out of balance and she again felt desolate. But with the help of Kahlei, Casey, and the humans, she pulled through and once more adapted. She herself lived to the age of 11, at which point she died of a muscular disease.
She died happy, though. She had no regrets. All her plans had been fulfilled, along with some little extra ones that had come along.

I based her anatomy/build off of these two beautiful wolfdogs: [link] [link]
OOPS, read that wrong. XD Thought you were asking me if I forgot you gave him. Yes, if by "give" you meant designed, you did give me Coal, but as far as I recall, he's still technically your character. XD
